ww18!!!

yess! first off i love this blog !! and i was sick on monday so i watched all of them and since freshman year i ahve loved sierra DeMuller. she talks about the things that no one wanted to talk about and the hard things in life. Not just myself but my friends have been put through many things ( like all teenagers) but it helps us know that we arent alone and everyone has those moments when we cant breathe and she told me its okay to breathe, she makes me cry everytime and to trust people. one of hers slame poets helped my mom and i talk, its called garden is any of you want to look it up. One person i would love to see at writers week that is dead, but my noono, ( grandpa). We would always just sit and talk, he had a way with words that would make me cry. i wish i could bring him back everyday because he is one of my heros but that would be amazing to see him here again.

waiting to fight

i think that it was a good idea to wait to start getting involved in world war 2. we did get bombed and everything got crazy but if you think about it, if we did get involved they might not of even started to fight with us and we would of started a fight for no reason. it would of been so dumb. yes we got bombed and then we took care of it and we made the best of what happened.

fasting

i think that the people working in the camps shouldnt fast. yes, it is a sign of honoring their God and what not, but they arent getting much food as it is and they are working so hard. The jews wanted to fast and do what they have been doing for all there lives but they have to think of themselfs and eat so they can work and stay alive. My thoughts of fasting while working hard hours.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I Liked the Writer Jenna Marotta. She was very funny. I liked her stories about her life. I think if i could see someone at writers week it would have to be Abraham Lincoln. I would choose him so i could know more about life in his time and to learn what he was thinking during the civil war.

Quarter 3 - Writers Week!

What was the highlight of Writers Week for you? Be specific. Then - if you could hear anyone dead or alive speak at Writers Week - who would it be and why? No copying. If someone has already taken your person - you have to come up with a new one. (That is the bonus of doing your blog early! ha ha!)

Right Decision

i believe roosevelt entered the war at the appropiate time. Germany, Italy and Japan had not pushed the U.S. into the war until Pearl Harbor when the Japanese bombed the navy. this was not the best time to enter but it was the right time to enter war. after the bombing roosevelt knew he had the support of the American people after the attack and it pumped evryone up for war.

Attack

I think roosevelt did the right decision when he decided to wait to get into the war. he did the right decision because if he had attacked beofre anyone had attacked us, the people would have gotten upset for attacking a country who had done nothing to us. That would create a problem inside the united states. That's why i think he did the right decision.

right decision

I think that Roosevelt made the right decision on waiting to enter the war when pearl harbor was attacked. I think Roosevelt made the right decision because no one has attacked the U.S., so there was really no big reason for Roosevelt to join the war. But when Japan bombed pearl harbor Americans really opened up their eyes and was wonder what was going on.
I think that he made the right decision on waiting. Because no one was ready to attack Pearl Harbor. Also i think that no one really wanted to attack Pearl Harbor because they didn't want to. And so this way he can get all of his men together and trained so they are ready to attack. This is why it was a good idea that Roosevelt waited to attack Pearl Harbor.
I think that Roosevelt made the right decision on waiting to enter WWII when pearl harbor was attacked. I believe this because Roosevelt made the right move on staying neutral since no one ever attacked U.S. soil. However, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, that changed Americas view on the war and we decided to join and fight back. If Roosevelt joined earlier, I believe that many more soldiers could have been killed or injured, which is why I believe he made the right decision on waiting.
I think Roosevelt made a good decision on waiting because I think waiting is a lot better then rushing into things. If he rushed into things, he might have had issues with things. If i was him i would wait until I was ready to go on with my plan. In that time, there was a lot of things going on around him and he needed to have a good plan about everything. He was right on waiting.
I think that Roosevelt made the right decision by waiting. Barely any one in the US wanted to go into the war but Japan and Germany did want too. No one really was ready for the war and that was good that Roosevelt waited. There was no reason to enter the war right away.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

I think Roosevelt made the wrong choice in joining the war later on; I believe this because from the beginning Roosevelt could have just accepted the Jews to come into America he was going to join the war anyway. Also thanks to him trying to stay neutral, like Switzerland, many people died. If the United States would have joined earlier on we more likely would have won and all those tragedies wouldn't have happened.

Entering the war

I think that Roosevelt made the right decision in entering the war. I believe this because Germany and the rest of the axis wouldn't have stopped at Europe, Asia, and Africa. In joining the war America turned the tide in the alliies favor.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Roosevelt absolutely made the decision in waiting as long as he could to join the war. Staying neutral is a good idea, no one gets hurt, there army doesn't spread to our land, and we can focus on our own problems and still help other allies. Though it looks bad that we had to wait until pearl harbor was attacked the war ended with the USA on top and thats all that matters in my book.

fasting

i believe that the prisnoers should not fast in the concentration camps. it says that people 13 years of age and higher can fast because they are more healthy and strong. yet in the concentration camps most of the strong healthy people are already weak, hungry, and tired. they do not get enough food to begin with so not eating the little food that they get might mean death.

Fasting

I fell that fasting for Yon Kippur should have been a choice. Because of the conditions that they were in some people did not even beleive in religion anymore. For them they should have been able to not do it. But for others who are still very religous if they wanted to they probably should have because they should honer there God no matter the conditions that is if there not on there death bed then that is a acception. I mean the least you could do is even save your food from that day for the next day.

Quarter 3, Week 5: Getting Involved in WWII

Did Roosevelt make the right decision in waiting to enter World War II until Pearl Harbor was attacked?  Explain your answer.

Prison fasting

I think it depends on who you are and what you want more to eat and live or keep your faith and possibly die of starvation. Also when it's prison and it's a life or death situation I think some prisoners would rather pick to live then starve.

Fasting

The idea of fasting on Yom Kippur is an okay idea on itself, but the whole premise of doing so while being imprisoned in a concentration camp is out of the question. The Jews are in the face of death, and a day without food could mean severe, maybe disasterous results for the brittle, frail Jews trapped in the grasp of the Nazis. Moreover, I have seen many Jews survive a few days without food or water, which is a remarkable feat. On the topic of religion, I'm not very religious, however Yom Kippur, being the day of attonement, is still observed by many Jews that day. That is why I am biased on the idea of if the Jews should fast or not, because while being in the face of death, they should be able to observe a Holiday cherished by many Jews, except the fact of having no food could mean sickness, or worse: death.

Fasting

I do not think the men or children should fast because they don't need to be doing that sort of thing just to please god. They should be eating all the food they get so they get to survive. I think they should not fast because god has not helped them at all. They have suffered terrible things while in the concentration camps and they should not be thinking about fasting in a time like this because at any moment they could die due to lack of nutrition and food. Those are my thoughts on why they should not fast.

Monday, February 20, 2012

I think everyone should fast, so it would be fair for everyone. They should do something to show how much they love God. God has done so much for everyone. Why can't they do a simple thing like this to show love to people.
I feel that they should have done it fast. The reason is why is because it would be mean and painful if they did it slow. Because I would rather have done it fast. Because then you get it over faster.
Although it would be a challenge to fast i strongly feel that they should fast. God has done SO much for everyone, and although they didn't get to eat much, this was the one time God wanted something in return. All of them pretty much gave up faith, but by doing this, we know that they still do have some sort of faith left. I feel like it is very important for them to fast because, although they think that God isn't helping them right now, he always has a plan. It would be so important for them to fast, because they would feel like they were giving back to someone that gave them life its self.

Sunday, February 19, 2012

I feel that the men should not fast because of the conditions they are in. They have to survive they have been technically fasting the whole time they have been in the concentration camps because they barely eat anything. In the book some people did fast but I'm pretty sure that those are one of the people that died because they were so weak they needed all the food they could have.

Quarter 3 - Week 4

On Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, Jews traditionally fast to show God that they are
sorry for their sins and to ask forgiveness. Only those over the age of thirteen and those who
are healthy must fast. The imprisoned Jews discuss whether or not fasting is appropriate
under the life or death conditions of the camp.
Write a short response with your opinion on whether the prisoners should fast.

In my opinion, FDIC had the most impact during the Great Depression in America. It insured peoples money, so if anything were to happen to their money or savings accounts at the bank, they were guaranteed to get their money back. Back then it only insured up to $5,000 but it was better than them not getting anything back at all. So if anything were to happen, they would have some money to support their families. They didn't have to worry so much anymore and had more trust in banks.
I think the biggest impact from the new deal would have to be the FDIC. The FDIC guarantees certain bank accounts up to $250,000. This is very important for the account holders and the bank. People really liked FDIC back then.
The biggest part of the New Deal was the CCC. The reason why is because it gave tons of people jobs. It gave all of these people second chances because they finally got paid a good amount so that they could provide for their families.
I feel that the FDIC had the most impact on America during the Great Depression. The FDIC insured that people would get there money back if anything were to happen. I think that this was a very powerful thing that the started. People could trust the banks once again. They knew if the banks were to crash again, they would have enough money to support their families. I think that this was a great idea to come up with the FDIC. The impact was very significant because people could now rely on the banks, and they wouldn't stop putting money in.

The New Deal.

In my opinion, I think that "Cotton Industry" was one of the most significant New Deal programs because people were not growing edible crops and losing money that way. Since no one was going to eat cotton, farmers were going to make a lot more money through growing cotton. it was also a good idea because the cotton was more productive and it was going to provide other needs like clothes, because some people needed them during the great depression. Overall, most farmers had come to almost losing their farms, but growing cotton brought their farms back to business.

The New Deal

one of the things i thoughthelped Americans get out of the Great depression was security power that when you get old or retiar you will still get money. I think that this was a big part, because the older people didnt take the jobs that the younger people could be doing. This was also a big part of their health. when your old and cant move as well as you did when you where younger its not fair to be working and moving things and what not. Since FDR made this we now have this today i mean who wants to be working at 70 years old? not me. Any who, this was a big deal because more jobs will be opened up for the youngerkids who want to help work and help their familys out. I personally think this was a big help in having more peopel get jobs.

nEw DeAl

there are 2 important things we got from the new deal and they were the FDIC and Social Security. The FDIC was very important because it insured the american people who were putting the money into the banks up to $250000. Then there was social security. social security gave older people and people who are retired benifits when they turned 65. these two are very important because they are still used today unlike some of the other acts that roosevelt made.

pros & cons

We have been learning about the The Great Gatsby and now we just watched Cinderella man and they are both awesome time periods but we have some pros and cons to it. Some pros to living in the time of the Great Gatsby are, you could to what you wanted, party's and happiness, and love. we noticed that before you could go and part and be happy be with the people you love without fighting about money and worrying about how you can get food on the table, those are some cons to the 30's. some pros of the 30's are that, families learned how to stay together, value what they have in life, and know what its like to work hard and accept how things are. the cons to the 20's are they never thought about what they had in life, never realized how much their loved ones meant to them, and also everything they did is seemed like it didn't matter to them.

the biggest thing that happend

I personally think that the north winning the civil war was a big thing. I think it changed how people thought about the North because they knew we wont just there to mess around we want a change. Winning this war helped change how we all treated people. also, if this never happened we might still be living where black and whites where treated differently. today, we still have people who don't totally agree with whites and blacks dating and stuff like that. our grandparents went through that and still have a strong feeling about this. winning the civil war had a big impact on how People acted how people lived their lives. Yes the war is bad but in this case by winning this war we made something right out of a bad situation.

pros and cons

The pros of the twenty's would be that people are having a lot of fun, they all have things they want and need, also they could what they wanted without worrying about the consequences themselves. But the cons would be that people are being irresponsible and don't realize what there doing,no ones cautious about there spending and what there spending it on. The cons of the depression is that no one had any money, people were jobless, and people were killing themselves over the fact that they had no money had to job.

the new deal

I think the biggest new deal was the CCC. When FDR took office he created many programs designed to put americans back to work. He concentrated on creating jobs. By FDR providing jobs this gave all the men enough money to provide for their own families, such as buying food and clothes. The CCC was also known as Roosevelt's tree army. They created forests by planting three billion trees from 1933-1942. This help rebuild towns that were effected by the dust storm. The CCC was responsible for more than half the reforestation.

New Deal

The biggest New Deal program that made a great impact was the CCC because it gave thousands of people jobs and payed them good wages. The program also sent half the money they made to their families. That helped the people a lot because they finally had a job and they could provide for their family.

Quarter 3, Week 3: The New Deal

Which New Deal program had the biggest impact on America during the Great Depression?  Be sure to discuss what the program did as well as why its impact was significant.

Pros and Cons

Though we have two very diffrent decades i suppose there are Pros and Cons to each. The 20s has the pros of the people of America happy and enjoying life, even if it wasn't really good for them. It was the decade of new things and entertainment which excited everybody. There was always something to do and a new easy way to amaze people. However the cons were pretty bad, you see the first mobs were starting to form and more and more crimes were being done. On top of having fun and being entertained, they didn't much care for their health so i bet they had bad health problems. Three Cons for the 30's are pretty much simple, if you had health problems from the 20's you couldn't really go see a dactor since you were probably homeless. NOt to mention jobless with no hope for the future. i suppose some Pros would be you get life lessions out of the 30's? How to servive and how not to trust the bank, and who your friends really are.

Pros and Cons

The Great Depression had a lot of pros and cons one of the pros would be that they had a lot of money they weren't worried about how they were going to pay the bills and things like that. Another pro is that the movie theater became a popular thing during that time so that meant more movies or shows had to be made. A con would be that a lot of people lost their jobs and because of this many families didn't have food or money to pay the electricity bill. Also many kids were sent away because their families couldn't afford to have them or because they were getting sick.
There are lots of pros and cons for living like they did in the great gatsby. One pro would be that really nice houses that kept them safe and sound. Another pro would be that there was always food for them to eat. Third would be that they had vehicles to transport themselves. Now i will share some cons for the great gatsby. One con would be that they wouldn't spend a lot of time together with one another. Another would be that they waste money on dumb things that aren't needed. The adults always acted immature and would party a lot like kids. Now the pros for the Great Depression were that they appreciated every little thing such as running water. Another pro would be that they spent a lot of time together, with each other. Third would be that everything was a lot cheaper. Now here are some cons for living in the Great Depression. One is that lots of people didn't have any money period. Another would be that tons of people were without a job. And lastly would be that some people didn't even have a house to live in or had gotten evicted.

There are many pros and cons for living in The Great Gatsby time, and there are also many pros and cons for living in the roaring twenties. One pro in the Gatsby book, was that they we’re all happy with what they had. They didn’t complain and they always we’re happy about everything they worked to get. Also, they could work and support their families. Another pro would be that they could have parties when ever they wanted. There are also many cons to this. There was not nearly as much time with their families like in the great depression time. Also a Con could be that they might even have partied too much. They drank all the time and didn’t even care. Although they worked hard for their money, they wasted it all on things that they did not need. There are also many Pros and Cons for the great depression time. The pros are that they spent so much time with there families. Also, they learned there true strength and they saw how much they could go though if they worked together. Another pro is that they didn’t take advantage of what they had, they we’re very thankful. Some cons for the great depression times we’re, there had so much trouble making any money. They had to wait outside of a fence just to work for a couple of hours to make a couple of dollars. Another Con was that since they didn’t have money they couldn’t keep their families warm, and all the little kids we’re getting sick. There are many pros and cons during these times that made these people very strong individuals.

During the Great Depression there were some good thing about it. During the Great Depression I feel like a lot of people had second chances with a lot of things just like what we saw in the movie we saw last week. A lot of people were desperate for workers and for money. I feel like though the Great Depression a lot of families got closer then they were before because these times were very tough times and families needed to stick together. Some cons about the Great Depression was that some families got mad at each other during this time some people had to leave there wife of husband and that was hard for people to let them go. Also people during that time did a lot of praying to keep there heat on and their electricity on for as long as they can. They were very grateful in those days. So I think during the Great Depression was the hardest time anyone went though. It was very different between the 20's and the 30's.

Comparison Between the 20s & the 30s

The 1920s and the 1930s were really eventful. In fact, the events were cataclysmic. During the 20s, a lot of people were very affluent, meaning that they could do anything anytime. The Americans also had a sense of fun when it came to "partying". However, that fun ended when the Depression during the 30s took away the money and left the American people without anything. Most familys lost everything, from furniture to heat, electricity and food, mainly the necessities. However, there were some events that took place in the 30s when people could escape the reality of the Depression and see some entertainment. In ends, the time between 1920s and the end of World War II were eventful.
